The mint of the Principality was founded on December 24, 1666 by
Prince/Abbot Edward.
The currency was then called-like today- LUIGINO, its value used to be a quarter of a French Louis.
The old and precious pieces were silver and gold coins bearing the image of Saint Bernard and the inscription "MONASTERIUM LERINENSE PRINCEPES SEPULCRI CONGREGATIONIS CASSINENSIS."
